Step 2: Enter your assumptions on the input tabs

Retail + Ecommerce Sales Projections

  • The revenue projection model will help you predict your unique monthly revenue and cost of goods sold for five years. The model starts by determining website and retail location visitors and your conversion and sales rate to calculate monthly sales units. You will set however many products or product categories and their associated cost, revenue, and shipping and packing expense. The model then forecasts out your revenue and direct expenses for five years and automatically passes that information through the financial statements.

Retail + Ecommerce Operating Expenses

  • The model will guide you to enter your specific expenses in the operating expense model, which includes some suggested line items and default amounts to help form a starting point. This model will pass through the expenses and cash flows on the financial statements for you so you won’t have to manually input them later. You can choose to enter your monthly expenses as either fixed amounts or variable items like payment processing fees. The first three months of the model are broken out separately so that you can enter start-up expenses.

Retail + Ecommerce General Assumptions

  • The general assumptions tab will guide you to enter typical balance sheet items such as fixed assets, loans, investments, inventory assumptions, and accounts receivable assumptions. After you provide some basic data points it will calculate the difficult things for you like loan amortization, interest expense, depreciation expense, inventory purchases, etc.

Retail Ecommerce Salaries Sheet

  • The salaries and distributions model will help calculate monthly expenses for salaried employees which can be tricky, including items like employer taxes and benefits. If you plan to have owner draws or dividends this model can help you account for that as well.

Step 3: The model is automatically updated based on your assumptions

Retail Ecommerce Financial Overview

  • This At-A-Glace tab shows you a financial summary in the form of data visualizations, ratios, and financial summaries, all ready to be copied into a pitch deck.

Ecommerce Financial Pro Formas

  • There are six different Financial Statement tabs: the annual formats of the income statement, cash flow statement, and balance sheet, and the month-by-month breakdowns of the same financial statements. Our balance sheets always balance, automatically.

Investor Dashboard Tab

  • The Investor Dashboard tab enables you, a lender, or an investor to play with any main assumptions of the revenue model. This tab will then display the income statement from your model and a special, modified income statement that updates as you manipulate the assumptions. This enables you to see how sensitive your model is to certain variables without any redundant data entry

Frequently Asked Questions

How to add an ecommerce division to my retail business?

If you have a bricks and mortar retail business today, you must be thinking about your ecommerce strategy.  You might consider selling through Amazon which can give you access to millions of customers, but also comes with a lot of competition and risk of relying too much on Amazon for the success of your ecommerce strategy.  Alternatively, you might consider setting up your own ecommerce store with a tool like Shopify.  The downside is that you won’t have access to the customers available on Amazon, but you will control your own destiny and won’t have to worry about the risk of Amazon deplatforming your business.

What are the 3 types of e-commerce?

Business to business, business to consumer, and consumer to consumer. Their appropriate examples would be Zoey, Amazon, and Ebay.

What skills do you need for e-commerce?

In addition to the usual soft skills in any business, it is critical that you have strong data-analysis and software development skills on your team in order for the business to be successful.  If you don’t have these skills you will need to find an agency that specializes in supporting ecommerce businesses.
