Step 2: Enter your assumptions on the input tabs

Nonprofit Revenue Projection

  • Nonprofits each have unique "revenue" or different income models. This model is built around a number of different fundraising avenues including gifts, grants, contributions, membership dues, "other" revenue, an unrelated business income as well as the ability to set at what rate you anticipate each avenue growing annually. Using that information, revenue will be calculated passed through to the financial statements.

Nonprofit Operating Expenses

  • The operating expenses section of the non profit projection template will enable you to put in any recurring operating expenses you expect, assign them to a category, choose if that will be a fixed or variable expense each month, and then ultimately how much each month you estimate it will cost. The first 3 months are broken out separately so you can account for any abnormal expenses during the first 90 days. The model comes with some pre-filled expenses and categories so you don't have to start from scratch.

Nonprofit General Assumptions

  • The first section of the nonprofit projection template will ask you to provide some  assumptions as well as will give you a rough estimate of how much it will cost to start your organization. This section will ask for items such as accounts payable terms, initial donations, any loans planned, fixed assets to be purchased or already in possession. The model will take these items and calculate some of the trickier items like amortization, interest expense, and depreciation which will be passed to the financial statements.

Nonprofit Salaries Tab

  • The final input tab of the nonprofit financial forecast template will help you plan out any salaried employees as well as any dividends.  The salaries table will ask you to provide estimates for each planned position including base salary, employer taxes, benefits, what month you plan for them to start, and how many of that employee type you are planning to have. The template comes with a few employees already in the model so you can use that as a starting point.

Step 3: The model is automatically updated based on your assumptions

Nonprofit Financial Summary

  • The at-a-glance report is a financial overview that displays some helpful visualizations and tables for your nonprofit including break-even, use of funds, growth charts, and more.

Nonprofit Projected Financials

  • The nonprofit projection template will generate six different financial statement tabs that are perfect for potential lenders and donors. The statements included are an annual summary for the first 5 years of the statement of activities, cash flow statement, and statement of financial position. As well as a 5 year monthly break down for each.

Lender Friendly Report

  • Given that one of the primary reasons financial projections are needed is to acquire funding through financing, we intentionally built this non profit model to produce exactly what potential lenders need to see. It is also easy to change inputs and show exactly how you came up with the numbers in your financials.
