Step 2: Enter your assumptions on the input tabs

Church Revenue Forecast

  • The revenue prediction spreadsheet will help you predict your cash inflows from several sources including outside organization contributions and congregational giving. Giving can be increased or decreased over time to predict total revenue for sixty months. The predicted values will be automatically carried to the financial statement models.

Church Expenses Model

  • You will be instructed to enter your other expenses in the operating expense model, which includes some recommended line items and amounts to help you get started. This model will fill in the expenses and cash flows on the financial statements automatically. You can enter your monthly expenses as either fixed amounts or as a percentage of revenue for variable items such as payment processing fees. The first three months of the model are broken out separately so that you can enter start-up expenses.

General Church Financial Assumptions

  • The general assumptions model will help you to enter balance sheet items such as fixed assets such as furniture, audio/visual equipment, as well as, loans, and investments. The excel template will have you provide some basic data and then you can sit back while it calculates the difficult things for you: loan amortization, interest expense, depreciation expense, etc.

Church Payroll and Salaries

  • Sheet The payroll section helps calculate monthly expenses for full time and part time employees, including items like employer taxes and benefits.

Step 3: The model is automatically updated based on your assumptions

Church Financial Recap

  • The At-A-Glace tab shows you a quick financial snapshot in the form of helpful graphs, charts, ratios, and financial summaries, all of which can be easily used in a pitch deck or business plan.

Church Financial Statements

  • There are six Financial Statement tabs: the annual formats of the income statement, cash flow statement, and church balance sheet, and the month-by-month breakdowns of the same financial statements.

Shareholder Friendly Template

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you manage church finances?

To effectively manage your church’s finances, you need to develop a budget.  Our church financial projection template can serve as a nice blueprint for a budget. Additionally, you should either hire an outsourced accounting firm to help with the bookkeeping, payroll processing, etc, or find a reliable church Treasurer that can volunteer to manage the church finances.  It is wise to have at least two people involved in the church finances so that one single dishonest volunteer can’t steal from the church as easily.

Who makes financial decisions in a church?

Usually, it is the board of directors collectively make decisions about finances in a church. However, the pastor and congregation can participate in the process depending on the church bylaws and denomination requirements.

Should a pastor have a church credit card?

Depending on the size of your congregation, a pastor could have a church credit card. If your pastor makes payments for various miscellaneous items every week, it might be most effective to provide the pastor with a credit card. If it is rare for the pastor to use a credit card, you could ask the pastor to utilize a personal credit card and then submit receipts for reimbursement each month.

How do you categorize church expenses?

Typically the largest expense categories for a church are going to be payroll for pastoral staff, music leaders, ministry leaders, etc.  The next largest expense category is likely to be rent or mortgage expense for the church building.  The last major bucket is likely ministry expenses for things like children’s ministry, youth group, missions support etc.
